| History of the Band
The Great White Possum String Company was formed in 1975, when 5 musicians who frequented weekly jam sessions at a Kansas City music store decided to form a band. The name of the music store was the Possum Trot Pickin' Parlor, to which the band's name can be attributed. The Possums joined the festival circuit, playing shows in Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Arkansas... just about any place that would have them. In 1976, they issued their first album simply entitled "Great White Possum String Company", and took it on the road to sell at festivals. The possum logo got a lot of attention, so soon t-shirts were made with the album graphics on the front. It wasn't long before the t-shirts had outsold the albums. Although the Great White Possum String Company never broke up, they all did stop showing for practice, marking the end of the 10-year run. In 2005, the band reunited for an anniversary jam session. Although the fingers didn't move as fast and the lyrics didn't come to mind as quickly, the boys still enjoyed playing together. They recorded a new CD, "On The Road Again", added a mandolin player to the band, and hit the road in support of the CD. So look for them at a festival near you, and contact them if you'd like to have them appear at your show. |
